For now, I can say that it's luckily quite easy as most Japanese companies use the accounting standards IFRS or a modified version of GAAP which is very close to IFRS. Hence, it's very similar to read and understand them if you know how to read US or EU annual reports, if you translate the pdfs. However, the supplemtaty material (usually in ppt) in bigger Japanese companies is very nice, as they explain their numbers very well.
