Plenty of gems - Amami Ōshima, Goto islands. Plus if I need to choose better residing alternative to Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka and Nagoya (among “millioners”) , it will be Fukuoka.
Congrats! - And thanks for sharing this story. Couldn't agree more to your comment "after spending 10 days in Kyushu, the food and service in Tokyo feels disturbingly bad." This is how I feel every time I spend a few days in the capital, and I count the days until returning to Fukuoka.
It's a great place to live because the sea and the mountains are both nearby. The hot springs of Beppu and Yufuin are especially popular, so the tourism sector is likely to remain strong indefinitely. Of course, the steel mills in Ōita pay the bills! We just pick mikan and shiitake mushrooms.
Yeah the vibe I got too. A very nice tourist destination, and as soon as you step out of the main touristy areas, it's quite run down and industrial :P
alright youve convinced me, im booking a holiday

As a resident of Kyushu, your attention to this part of Japan is much appreciated. I could not agree with you more!
I had no idea! Whereabouts are you located?
Near Beppu
Interesting! Beppu and Oita were super interesting when traveling there. What do you think about their future?
